How to Get Your Car Ready For the Arizona heat

Arizona summers will wreak havoc on your car. It is dusty, hot and sunny that even your vehicle will be begging for some shade. If you look at your car like the investment it is, then you will want to take measures to protect it before summer is in full swing. To avoid breakdowns, and to keep the exterior looking fresh, follow these tips to prepare your ride.

Take Care Of The Exterior

The sun can destroy the paint job of your car. With UV rays, the outside of your vehicle may take a beating that it may not be able to recover from without a pricey makeover. If you want to prevent chipping, cracking and fading, try taking these measures:

  • Wax: A simple coat of wax will help your car resist dirt, dust and debris while also protecting its paint job from water spots and the sun.

  • Use A Car Cover: If you do not have access to a garage, a car cover can protect if from the sun both inside and out.

  • Wash It:  A well used car is bound to get dirty. A little soap and water once or twice a week can go a long way in protecting the paint job from dirt.

Check the Battery

Arizona summers are known to kill their fair share of car batteries. Excessive heat can cause battery fluids to dry up and have a high frequency of overcharging. Make sure your battery is in top shape before the summer season and give it some love by frequently checking the fluid levels and keeping the battery cables and connectors clean.

Check The AC

Road trips can turn into a sweaty nightmare if the air conditioner in your car is not working properly. Without air conditioner, the sweltering Arizona sun can cause you and your car to overheat. Make sure everything is in order and that it is working correctly before summertime comes.

Change The Air Filter

The dusty Arizona roads can do a number on your air filter. The hotter the weather, the dustier it becomes. This makes air filters more prone to clogging, which can result in damage to the engine. Replace the filter at the start of the summer and continue to check on it throughout the season. If you see dust or dirt, try giving it a shake to remove as much as you can.

Keep Tire Pressure Stable

With rising and falling temperatures as well as extreme heat, the pressure in your tires will change rapidly. Make sure to check the pressure and tread every time you fill up at the station to avoid tire damage that could lead to dangerous accidents or breakdowns.
